Tsogang doesn’t just build a water system in a community. Rather, we give that community all the skills and information necessary to implement the project. This approach means that a typical project will span a year. Even with this high level of community involvement, Tsogang has been able to complete over 150 projects since 1996. We have upheld technical standards and are committed to our beneficiary communities, first and foremost. Beneficiary communities are our active partners in development and, as such, we place them at the top of Tsogang’s organagram. Tsogang’s high standards of practice are achieved through the project cycle: This means that elected community representatives are part of the entire process, managing their project and making it sustainable because the project and the process are owned by them. Tsogang is different because all aspects of our work respond to cross-cutting social issues such as: gender mainstreaming, environmental protection, service delivery, disability, good governance & capacity building, and local economic development. These issues are the core of project success. Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) do not have to work at odds with government but, rather, in partnership to eradicate the service delivery backlogs and build a better country.
