LINGO is a consortium of six NGOs based in the Limpopo Province. Tsogang will take on the administrative role while the other organisations will be creating and managing their own projects. The project is to last for five years.
| Tsogang Water and Sanitation. Extension of existing (Flanders-funded) programme Water and Sanitation provision with remote un-serviced communities using Appropriate Technology (AT) approach and community-based methods (PRA, PHAST etc) – springs, RWH etc,, in cooperation with the Water Services Authorities. Also propose a project specifically for HIV affected families by doing RWH at household level, possible also hippo rollers (™), (possibly as consortium), Tsogang are concentrated in Sekhukhune District now but want to expand to Waterberg District as well since none of the consortium members are functioning there at present. Also propose Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) training for communities and H&H promotion, engaging District Municipalities directly on this. School toilet provision, O&M training and back up with water committees and Local Municipalities. Revisit existing systems and improve skills at community level. Write up and disseminate best practices and integrated lesson learning. Possible link up with Play pumps International (™) | |  Operation Hunger. Revisit old boreholes used for water supply in Sekhukhune District – some with hand pumps, some motorised, some vandalised, some dysfunctional; Compile database (Sekhukhune first, other districts later); repair hand pumps, install some new, pilot use of windmills as opposed to hand pumps where feasible; pilot use of “Hippo roller” (™) water collection device; drip irrigation for food gardens – food production; Rainwater Harvesting (RWH), Ferro cement mould tanks for RWH. Training for use in communities. Can also support entrepreneurs if show interest in mould and tank construction. Also H&H promotion work, keeping water clean at home etc. Appropriate technology in short. | |  AWARD. (Association for Water And Rural Development) Promoting Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in Bushbuckridge Municipality. Ensure that planning for Water Services is based on available resources. Research on available groundwater and surface water in Sand River catchment, and Injaka Dam. Assessing water demand of communities and businesses, projected industry etc. Understanding livelihoods of rural communities, and ensuring that Water Services Providers take real rural situations and HIV/AIDS etc into account. Want to see integrated planning processes (WSDPs and IDPs) being implemented fully, as opposed to current practice. | |  Tlhavhama Training Initiative. Employ three community health and hygiene promoters, deployment to rural communities, to act as and support health advisors/ visitors. Ten villages in Capricorn, year one, Then Sekhukhune, then other districts. | |  Akanani. Local Community needs assessments using PRA; schools water and garden projects with schools and communities. Training for permaculture. Operations & Maintenance training for village water systems. O & M of community sanitation at community level. Also H&H and HIV/AIDS. Documentation and dissemination of best practices/lessons learned. Community Sanitation Programme ± 100 in one Village. | |  Elim Care Group – Pilot Health & Hygiene (H&H) promotion work (including addressing issues of HIV/AIDS), care and support for Orphans and vulnerable children in the Province with Youth groups/Schools, in cooperation with the local Municipalities concerned. One Local Municipality each year for five years. Will be coordinated with the similar activities being planned via Masibambane in Vhembe, Bushbuckridge, Mopani and Thulamele. | |
